What's happening?

Join award-winning authors and illustrator Jill Michelle Smith and Jennifer Watson for a spooky adventure at Dereham Windmill, in the heart of Norfolk. Have fun finding ten new and exciting Extraordinary Extinct™ prehistoric monsters before collecting your reward!


Discover fascinating facts about our ancient animal ancestors, as you explore the grounds surrounding the historic windmill. Complete your trail sheet to receive your explorer's sticker of honour and decorate your own wooden 'creepy creature' at our craft tables to take home.


This roaring fun event is ideal for families with children of all ages. Tickets can also be purchased with a pre-paid Extraordinary Extinct™ children's book of your choice (RRP £7.99) signed by the authors, for the special price of £10. Choose from An A-Z of Extraordinary Extinct Creatures, Extraordinary Extinct™ Crystal Palace Dinosaurs or Extraordinary Extinct™ Prehistoric Minibeasts: A First Guide to Fossils on the day. Please present your ticket as proof of purchase when collecting your book.

Please select a time slot to begin the trail. Simply collect your map at this time, then take as long as you like to complete the trail and explore inside the windmill.



Free parking for the event will be at Dereham Windmill itself, with roadside parking also available. Refreshments will be served from the Partea Hut tearoom on site, as well as an accessible toilet and baby changing facilities.


£1 from every ticket is donated to Dereham Windmill (registered charity no. 1108549), to help look after the Grade II listed building and historic site for future generations to enjoy. There is no charge for family members accompanying a participating child.
