Discovered in Germany in 1861, Archaeopteryx is famous for being the first fossil to link dinosaurs to birds. Today we know that birds are living dinosaurs that evolved from avian dinosaur ancestors, whilst non-avian dinosaurs died out at the end of the Cretaceous Period.
