Over 100 different species of ichthyosaurs have been discovered. They were marine reptiles lived at the time of dinosaurs and were powerful swimmers with huge eyes, which made them excellent hunters. They ate fish, squid and ammonites, but in rare cases, even birds and turtles have been found fossilised in their stomachs.
