Aurochs were the giant, wild ancestor of modern cows that Neolithic people first began to farm. It is thought that around 5,000 years ago they were used to haul the bluestones that built Stonehenge on wooden rollers for over 150 miles! Sadly, these mighty Ice Age mammals eventually became extinct in 1627.
