The thylacine was a unique carnivorous marsupial that lived in Tasmania. Often called the Tasmanian tiger because of its striped back, it looked remarkably like a dog despite being more closely related to kangaroos and wombats! Like the dodo, the thylacine has become a symbol of lost species, as it sadly went extinct in 1936 due to human impact.
